Lisa Slomka - MACOG Staff Spotlight

Originally from South Florida, Lisa came to South Bend to study at the University of Notre Dame. While her undergraduate degree was in Studio Art: Painting, Lisa returned to Notre Dame after a few years of working to study Technology Entrepreneurship through the ESTEEM Graduate Program. After several years in the area, Lisa fell in love with the community and the commitment shown towards building impact. She shares her life with her golden retriever and enjoys ceramics, cooking, hiking, and urban foraging.

Lisa comes to MACOG with diverse knowledge and motivation to problem solve, build connections, and provide opportunities and tools to help make people’s lives better. Previously, Lisa worked with enFocus as a Senior Fellow, doing a mix of consulting and project management work in Marshall County and Berrien Springs, Michigan. Empathetic and community led design is a passion area of hers and has been a common thread throughout her work in community initiatives and entrepreneurship over the last several years.

At MACOG, Lisa will be the first to take on a new position as Director of the Regional Housing Collaborative and is focusing on attainable housing in the region. When asked what drew her to working with MACOG, she said she “was impressed by MACOG’s dedication to building intentional and sustainable impact in the region. Everyone here cares so much about the work they do and the communities they serve; it’s a great energy to be around.”

MACOG is excited to have Lisa join the team!

Quick Questions

Three words that best describe you.
Creative, Tenacious, Empathetic

You have headphones on, what are you most likely listening to?
My “Goodness” playlist gets the most playtime. The only criteria I have for that playlist is that I think a song is good, and that really can mean anything. Mostly, I’d say it’s made up of folk, indie, soft rock, and singer-songwriter tracks, but there are a lot of genre outliers as well.

If you were not working today, what are you most likely doing?
With a free day, I’d likely split time between hanging out with my dog and going to the ceramics studio.

Do you have a ‘secret talent’?
I did whitewater canoeing for a while and so know a lot of fancy paddling strokes. I was also trained in whitewater self rescue for a bit.
