Mallory Magee was a member of MACOG’s second AmeriCorps cohort serving with MACOG at City of Plymouth. After serving this past summer, Mallory continues her education in college and shares that "My AmeriCorps service with the City of Plymouth has allowed me to pursue my interest in local government and policy. I have enjoyed making a positive change in the community I hold closest to my heart.”

How did you find out about AmeriCorps and what led you to this role?

I found out about AmeriCorps through MACOG. I was eager to serve my community of Plymouth, Indiana and AmeriCorps allowed me to get involved with just that. I was looking for an opportunity to positively impact my community while also having the chance to be part of something bigger.

Why did you select City of Plymouth as your AmeriCorps service site?

I have grown up in the City of Plymouth and chose it as my service site because of the personal connection I have with the city. Living and serving in our region gave me a deeper understanding of the specific challenges and opportunities faced by our community. I witnessed firsthand the importance of addressing issues such as economic development, public safety, and social equity. These experiences have fueled my passion for public service and reinforced my commitment to making a positive difference through government work.

What AmeriCorps activities have been most meaningful to you?

I enjoyed all of the AmeriCorps activities. Serving at the Church Community Services- Seed to Feed was one of the most memorable AmeriCorps activities. Learning about how the food pantry operates, the food insecurities in the region I live in, and what impact community volunteers can do to make a difference was both impactful and informative.

How has service in the AmeriCorps program at MACOG and living in our region impacted your career aspirations?

I think my Service in the AmeriCorps program at MACOG and living in the region has had a profound impact on my career aspirations, especially in my desire to pursue a career in government and politics. Serving alongside the Mayor provided me with a unique and invaluable perspective on local governance and community engagement.

What continued to inspire you to serve in this role?

Any small victory for the city with positive progress fills my tank and keeps me eager to make a difference.
