MACOG has released an amendment for the Michiana on The Move: 2050 Transportation Plan and corresponding Transportation Conformity Determination Report for public comment and review.
AmeriCorps Featured Members - Christian Zeser
Christian Zeser was a member of MACOG’s second AmeriCorps cohort serving with MACOG at the Elkhart Environmental Center. Tasks included leading student groups on tours, large-scale invasive species removal, assistance in planning Environmental Center events, and leading events such as a birding walk.
MACOG, St. Joseph County Awarded Federal Planning Grant to Study Vehicle/Rail Safety Improvements
The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that the Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG), partnering with St. Joseph County will receive $1 million from the Railroad Crossing Elimination Program for a rail crossing study at Ash Road and other nearby grade-crossings (Apple, Beech, and Cottage Grove) along the Norfolk Southern Railway.

Anton Getz is a member of MACOG’s second AmeriCorps cohort serving with MACOG’s Active Transportation department in partnership with the South Bend Bike Garage. He focuses on improving access to and the quality of active transportation in the region. Access to transportation can have a huge impact on a person’s life.
MACOG Data Bike
There are over 150 miles of existing trails in the four county region, with new trails being built every year. Knowing the condition of each trail is essential for their maintenance; this is why MACOG is using a “data bike” to collect information regarding each trail’s condition.
Michiana Area Council of Governments Announces Draft Regional Mobility Plan
MACOG is excited to announce the release of the draft Regional Mobility Plan (RMP). This plan is designed to serve as the region’s Coordinated Public Transit - Human Services Transportation Plan and aims to identify gaps and barriers in transportation services for people with disabilities, older adults, and low-income residents.
