She has also been creating videos featuring electric vehicle drivers and making graphics for social media.
How did you find out about AmeriCorps and what led you to this role?
I had previously heard about AmeriCorps while in college, and it had always been a goal of mine to serve. When I heard about AmeriCorps at MACOG through an advertisement and my own research, I knew that it would be a great fit.
Why did you select MACOG as your AmeriCorps service site?
I selected MACOG as my AmeriCorps service site because the position allows me to combine my interests in vehicles, clean energy, and sustainability. I also knew that being surrounded by other MACOG staff would be an invaluable learning experience.
What AmeriCorps activities have been most meaningful to you?
So far, I have most enjoyed meeting electric vehicle drivers from the area and discussing their experiences. I have met many great people who are pioneering change through their own daily actions.
How has service impacted your career aspirations?
I am from the area originally, and my service gives me the chance to give back to my community. Serving has also given me a new perspective of my hometown and region through data, studies, and the expertise of my colleagues. I am also now familiar with organizations, companies, and career options I was previously not aware of. I am able to build my professional network and find inspiration through the work of others in the area.
What continues to inspire you to serve in this role?
Remembering that I’m part of a greater AmeriCorps community and remembering why I chose to serve continues to inspire me. Helping the people around me, even in small ways, is something I find gratifying.
What’s next after your AmeriCorps service is completed?
I will likely serve part-time for another term, pursue further education, and find my niche working in a communications-adjacent field for a clean energy focused nonprofit.
“I am grateful for the support, guidance, learning opportunities, and community that AmeriCorps at MACOG has provided. I am using my transferrable skills and interests from previous experiences while shifting my career towards sustainability.”
